Global Energy Meter Energy efficiency and remote monitoring Global Energy Meter Over the time, energy consumption has gained importance not only because of environmental concerns, but also because of the associated costs. In this sense, there was a need to implement measures and actions that translated into significant energy savings, which led us to develop the GEM, allowing remote monitoring of a power grid making all its consumption available in real time through a web interface. Sustainable and efficient solution The use of more efficient technologies allows us in a more sustainable and effective way, to reduce energy consumption and detect anomalies through real-time monitoring, and thus establish good conducts in the use of energy Operation The main function of GEM is to monitor energy consumption of three-phase circuits. The data collected by the equipment will later be transported to a web platform through the direct connection to the existing network, which allows us to consult them, build reports and analyze the global consumption of the residential, commercial or industrial installation, and consequently check and optimize measures of energy efficiency. Potentialities The GEM allows those who manage the system to take advantage of a series of parameters such as: Optimization of electrical energy, characterization of the electrical loads of the installation, detection of anomalous consumption (overvoltages, undervoltages, peaks of current), power adequacy hired. To this end, TERRANOVA will take advantage of breakthrough novel technology concepts, namely the design of baseband signal processing for the complete optical and wireless link, the development of H-band (>275GHz) RF front ends, as well as THz network information theory framework, channel and interference modelling in the THz regime, waveforms and high-order modulation schemes, pencil beam antenna arrays and multiple-access schemes and cashing techniques tailored to the particularities of the THz regime and the associated extremely large bandwidth. Sustaining a flexible and ubiquitously available Tbit/s access network in systems beyond 5G will require rethinking of design principles and architectures, mainly replacing the notion of joint optimisation with that of ‘co-design’, e.g. optical and wireless, backhaul and access, channel models and waveforms, signals and coding, beam-patterns and medium access schemes and so on. Most importantly, TERRANOVA will identify, assess and address the critical technology gaps and devise the appropriate enablers, expected to catalyse the road to beyond 5G. TERRANOVA innovations and technologies will be demonstrated by means of a Proof-of-Concept experimental platforms, validating and assessing the feasibility and performance of the THz wireless transceiver, the pencil beam based tracking and the co-design of fibre-optical and wireless principles. These proved to be a success and the effort expended allowed us to reach the world technological leadership. However, broadband services are in full growth and research needs to be focused on this evolution in order to keep up with market trends and to help define them.  In order to achieve this growth and consolidate global technological leadership, PT Inovação and IT launched the present project with the objective of developing the next generation PON, creating complete, innovative solutions worldwide with a view to the global market, where different PON technologies exist.  To this end, it is intended to create comprehensive network solutions, PtP WDM- PON(evolution of GPON technology), 10GEPON / NGEPON(evolution of EPON technology) and GFast(evolution of ADSL technology), which also allow coexistence with legacy technologies, XGPON, EPON, ADSL). The next generation PONs or the future of PONs lies in this set of innovative technologies, which we call FutPON technologies. The technological evolution for the next generation PONs presupposes the development of advanced and innovative OLT and ONT platforms equipped with features and components of great complexity in optoelectronics, electronics and management. An exponential increase in bandwidth, improvement in services dedicated to mobile communications, interoperability between different technologies, as well as through the development of integrated optical circuits and the reduction of costs and other essential characteristics such as occupied space or power the most important evolutions of these new technologies. The integration of these evolutions allows to position these technologies, in addition to the residential component in the business segments, mobile backhaul and cloud connectivity.  With this project, PT Inovação will have a unique network solution, where only one platform is intended to fulfill all the requirements of the different PON network markets, constituting a technological response to the future needs of bandwidth in various industries.
